![]() ![]() ![]() As the game progresses you should upgrade all exterior blocks to at least reinforced concrete though. I upgrade the outer walls of my foundation to cobblestone and on default settings (up to and including insane difficulty) this is already strong enough to survive the day 21 horde no sweat. For early game, you only need to upgrade the inner blocks to reinforced wood and this will be fine until demos spawn. The reason I build 3 blocks high is because zombies can't attack your floor (thus creating steps to you) and this forces them to use the stairs that you build. I start by building a 9x9 foundation 3 blocks high. Here's a video version of the guide for those who would prefer to watch instead of read. I've had this base built up to a functional level before the day 2 horde in horde night every night playthroughs even, but it's the perfect kind of base to work on during nights in your first week and easy to get up by day 7. It's a very simple base, but it can survive from day 1 to 70 easily, functions as both a horde base and a home base, and requires very little maintenance once you get it up and running.
